Installation
To install this product onto your computers hard disk, insert the DVD ROM into your DVD drive and wait for the setup routine to autorun. If you have autorun disabled on your computer, you need to follow these steps:
Go to the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop and double-click it.
Find the icon labelled 'NWLG OCR 2 (D:)' where D: is the drive letter of you DVD drive and double-click it.
Find the icon labelled 'setup.exe' or 'setup' and double-click that.
The NCICT Delivered product should start to install. Just follow the on screen instructions.
IMPORTANT NOTE – The product is in excess of 1.3GB, this means the installation process does take quite a long time. Please be patient.
Upon completion the product will be installed into the path 'C:\NWLG\NWLG OCR Level 2 NCict\content\'. The file which runs the product is titled 'index.html'.
Please note: Because of recent changes in the security model employed in Flash Player (versions 8.0 and above), a hidden configuration file has to be created on your computers hard disk to make Flash Player recognise the content of the NCict Delivered product as trusted and safe to run. The path to this file is 'C:\Documents and Settings\<CURRENT USER>\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#Security\FlashPlayerTrust\NWLG_OCRL2_NCICT.cfg' where <CURRENT USER> is the username of the user who installed the product. If this product is installed on a single user environment, <CURRENT USER> will be replaced with 'All Users'.
If you wish to move the NCict Delivered content to another path on your hard disk or to another drive, you will need to open the 'NWLG_OCRL2_NCICT.cfg' file with a text editor such as Notepad and update it to reflect the changes otherwise the content will no longer run reliably.

Disc Allocation - Due to the fact that this resource is provided freely where more than one member of a school has registered only one name has been posted, if you didn't get your copy check with a colleague and ask for them to duplicate the disc for you
Installation of the DiDA Delivered resources - Arising questions
* The installers only work with PC's
Apple Mac users need to install the resources on to a PC and then copy the folder on to a Mac from there or via CD/DVD
* The resources are very large in size. Installation, depending on the specification of the machine will take a significant amount of time. Please allow sufficient time for the installers to complete.
Due to the fact that the installer compacts the vast resource the disc checking process can take up to 6 minutes depending on the speeds and capabilities of your machines
* There are four discs in the pack. Discs 3 and 4 are underneath disc 2
3D Gaming Questions
* On installation only, the 3D gaming requires access to the internet
Due to the process involved in creating the 3D games the resource also needs a certain level of administrator access for the pupils or teachers to play and store data about themselves as they work through the activities. It is suggested that should you have any problems please contact Caspian Learning directly.
* The game installs but you cannot choose any tasks from the menu in the Atrium
This problem usually occurs if you don't have an 'always on' style internet connection or if you connect to the internet through a proxy server. Fortunately there is a patch available [here] (1.81MB) that will cure the problem. To apply this patch you must first download it to your hard disc then double click on the .exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
N.B. You will need to be logged on to your computer with Administer privileges to apply this patch.
New CD boxes sent after July 2006 - Disc 3 does not have an autorun function. Please double click on the application to install.
Moodle Questions
* Required parameter (id) missing
This appears to be linked to limits on the un packaging of individually zip files provided on the disc. By default the settings are likely to be lower than is required to unpackage some of the resources and this needs to be addressed before hand.
Any questions regarding problems with your disc's or installation problems can be fielded in the short term by HowtoMoodle
Alternatively for help with getting Moodle for your school to try out the resources within this VLE system go to Moodle.org On which you will find threads being supported by active DiDA teachers who have already received and installed the resources! |
