Journey matrix

If you wish to fly from Southampton to Taipei or from Aberdeen to Sydney via Manchester Airport, how long would it take ?

This activity is designed to expand previous activities which focussed on time zones and flight times. The objective is to look at the steps involved in arranging a journey which may require a number of connections and transfers and to consider how long this might take

You will need:

• The Flight Times Calculation Record sheet
• Your completed Times Zones Sheet

How to do it:

Write in each box, the flight time between each place.

For example:

• Southampton to Manchester 1hr
• Wait at Manchester 1hr 30 mins
• Manchester to Kuala Lumpur 12 hrs 30 mins
• Wait at Kuala Lumpur 1 hr 10 mins
• Kuala Lumpur to Taipei 5 hrs 5 mins

The total of the above times is the total journey time to write into the Southampton to Taipei box on the matrix.
