During the Second World War (1939-45) both soldiers and civilians in Britain found themselves in the front line. Britain’s towns and cities became targets for enemy bombers.

 Liverpool and the rest of Merseyside was a prime target. Its docks and industries made it a vital part of Britain’s war effort. As a result, Liverpool was bombed many times. The heaviest attacks came in the Liverpool Blitz of May 1941.
