Pens and pencils

Pens

Use a ballpoint or a fountain pen which writes with black ink.

Always carry spare pens - especially in an exam.

Pencils

Use a soft pencil - HB or B - for making notes in books.

Never submit answers to coursework or exams written in pencil. Always use a pen.

Hot tip!

Take a collection of different-shaped pens to the exam.

If your fingers get tired, switch to using a pen with a different shape.

Highlighters

Use coloured highlighters to show the structure of your notes.

Different colours can be used to show different topics or headings.

Some people highlight important passages in text books.
