The Oxford English Dictionary is the biggest and best dictionary
of the English Language, and a world-famous monument of scholarship. Until
recently, this was in forty printed volumes and had become impossibly
expensive to produce. Now it's been put on line. There are the two options
available. You can have the convenience, speed, and reliability of the
whole dictionary on a single disk. Keep it in your D: drive and the world's
biggest database of language can be summoned with a mouse-click. The alternative
is to subscribe to the online version, which will be regularly updated. It's
worth noting that the OED editors have decided to adopt an all-inclusive
policy.
New English, slang, jargon, and even obscenities are all listed. This
is one for the school library.
