Mnemonics
This is a technical term which means 'one thing which helps you to remember
another'.
[You say it without the first 'M', by the way - 'Nem-onics'.]
A mnemonic is like a secret code which helps you to recall information.
For instance, in written music the notes are (on the lines) E,G,B,D,F
and (in the spaces) F,A,C,E.
You can remember these as 'Every Good Boy Deserves
Favour' and the single word 'FACE'.
Or you might remember the order of the points on the compass by - Never
Eat Shredded Wheat - that is, North - East
- South - West.
Another famous example is the colours of the spectrum. These are Red
- Orange - Yellow - Green - Blue - Indigo
- Violet.
These can be remembered by the phrase - 'Richard Of York
Gave Battle In Vain'.
Keep it simple. Mnemonics need to be short, sharp, and effective.
You can make up your own - or use those which are well known.
